It all begins with your first class
At SpringsRider.com we support safe riding. There are times when it’s ok to twist the throttle, and times when it’s not. We teach safety with a realistic approach to survival on the road amongst the larger metal beasts. Agility, nimbleness, and a keen sense of danger is what keeps us alive. Come learn the skills needed to enjoy riding knowing you can out the bike wherever you want, whenever you want. It’s all about practice and fundamentals.
SAFETY TIPS
“A smart person learns from other’s mistakes so not to make their own.”
traffic filtering
Traffic filtering is legal in many states, including Colorado. When cars are lined up at a stop light, you may filter between lanes and arrive at the front of the line. A good tip is to look at the intersection lights to determine if you have time to make it to the front of the line or not. If traffic starts to move mid-filter, try to find a safe entry point back into a lane asap or twist and get ahead of the pack quickly.
Animal instincts
Witnessing wildlife while riding is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the sport. But when those beautiful creatures enter our lane of travel, tragedy can happen quickly. It’s a good idea to avoid the first hour of light as most animals are nocturnal in nature and are still out eating their dinner while you’re heading to work. Always look for unfenced areas that allow for animals to wander off a property and onto the road.
Waving to fellow riders
As riders sharing a road with larger vehicles, an automatic bond is formed between us riders, regardless of your bike type, gear, or years of experience. It’s polite to give a two-finger wave to oncoming or passing riders but always keep your eyes forward and prioritize your immediate surroundings over flashing a peace sign.
Intersections
Intersections, where two roads cross, is the most common place where accidents occur. Anytime two traffic flows intersect much care must be taken to assure safe passage. Slow down 10 Mph at every intersection and scan for left turners as well as mergers on the right.
Aggressive cars
Aggressive car drivers are a danger to everyone on the road. A rider is no match for a 4000-pound car, so steer clear of any drivers you feel are not safe or may be mentally unstable. Road rage is a real thing, and you’re best to get away from the situation as quickly as possible.
ROAD CONDITIONS
Surface conditions play a major role in how your ride will go. Loose gravel after a snowfall, oil in the middle of the road from a leaking car, and rain are all extremely dangerous as they remove the friction between your tires and the road.
